My dad has a D820 (quadro nvs 120m, but nvidia site says the same as for you), and windows update also found the driver and installed it as soon as I had my network set up. E3dx hsp56 driver for mac. I use Win7 Pro 64 bit. Smp501, Aug 4, 2010. So my D820 Laptop is currently running Lion 10.7.2 fine. I have also installed the latest EDP from OSX Latitude and can say I have no errors on boot via verbose mode. Load-up time is around 90 secs. The full spec and details are in my signature. I have bought a copy of Mountain Lion after finding.

Dell D820 Dimensions
I am also using a Dell D820 with the Nvidia NVS 120M and have experienced the same issues.
I have tried a variety of video drivers from LaptopVideo2Go with modified .inf files, with mixed results. Some throw me back into the issue of Metro icons not appearing, and others have locked up my computer in screen saver mode.
Now, I am using the latest driver available from LaptopVideo2Go which is intended for the 120M, using device ID 'DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01CC1028' from the old Dell driver installer files. These drivers are intended for Vista, though they seem to be holding steady under Windows 8.

On another note (and at the possibility of losing all credibility), I recently experienced an issue with the D820 where my laptop booted but the graphics would not enable under any circumstances, including BIOS post. If this occurs to you, it may be because the solder connecting the GPU has finally deteriorated past the point of conductivity. I can attest that re-flowing the motherboard of a D820 in a household oven may fix this problem.
